Bedford is the historic county town of Bedfordshire, one of Englands smallest counties. It's name derives from 'Bede's Ford', indicating that there was a river crossing here from early time of English settlement.
Today, Bedford is a pleasant and lively plave with the River Great Ouse flowing through it. Every two years the town holds the Bedford River Festival which has become one of the largest free outdoor events in England (second only to the Notting Hill Carnival in London).
