Chelmsford is situated in the centre of Essex and has been Essex’s County town since 1250.
Chelmsford is known as the ‘birthplace of radio’ after Guglielmo Marconi opened the world's first "wireless" factory under the name The Marconi Wireless Telegraph & Signal Company in Hall Street back in 1899.
The town celebrates the annual ‘International Marconi Day’ which is usually takes place around 25th April which was Marconi’s birthday.
In 2007, the Channel 4 television programme "Location, Location, Location" voted Chelmsford as the 8th best place to live in the UK.
