Leeds

Map

Leeds is a vibrant, multicultural city situated in the heart of West Yorkshire; it’s the largest city in West Yorkshire and the third largest city in the UK after London and Birmingham.

The City of Leeds has now diversified from the woolen and ready-made clothing industry, to a thriving prosperous commercial (Leeds is the UK's largest centre for business, legal, and financial services outside London), industrial, tourist and entertainment centre.

The main shopping street in Leeds city centre is Briggate where you’ll find most of Leeds' department stores. Situated between Briggate and Vicar Lane is The Victoria Quarter, an up market shopping area where you’ll find big name stores such as  Louis Vuitton, Paul Smith, Vivienne Westwood, Mulberry and Harvey Nichols.

The Millennium Square in the city centre is a focal point for events and is surrounded by many of the city's most famous landmarks, including the Town Hall, Civic Hall & City Museum. There is also a large BBC screen which shows major sporting events.

Leeds operates a ‘freecitybus’ service that provides free travel between key locations around the city centre,  linking Leeds' rail and bus stations, business and shopping districts, the General Infirmary, Universities and Park Lane College.

Leeds also has excellent bus, road and rail links; Leeds City Station is the main-line railway station and also acts as the hub for the local Metro Train link.

Opposite the railway station, the famous statue of the Black Price stands proudly in City Square.

The Yorkshire County Cricket Club are based at Headingley Carnegie Cricket Ground, Leeds United Football Club at Elland Road with Leeds Carnegie (Rugby Union) and Leeds Rhinos (Rugby League) sharing the Headingley Carnegie Stadium.

Guiseley is 18 minutes by train from Leeds City centre and is the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales. Ilkley, Skipton and Harrogate are about 30 minutes by car. The "World Famous Betty's Tea Rooms" and Ilkley Moor are very close.
