Luton is a large town in Bedfordshire, situated approximately 30 miles north of London.
Luton was originally known as a centre of the straw and hat making industry: hence "The Hatters" being the nickname of Luton Town football club.
Most people know Luton for its international airport which is the current headquarters of Easyjet.
Luton has a railway station in the town centre and in addition, ‘Luton Airport Parkway’ station opened in 1999 to serve the airport (a shuttle bus operates between the station and the airport with a journey time of around ten minutes). Direct services are available to five central London stations - St Pancras International, Farringdon, Blackfriars, City Thameslink and London Bridge.
Luton is also close to the M1 motorway allowing easy road access.
The University of Bedfordshire was established in August 2006, following the merger between the University of Luton and De Montfort University’s Bedford campus. The Luton Campus has recently seen a total of £1.4m ploughed into its business facilities including a new Law Moot Court and unique 'Business Pods'. The Luton campus is located in the town centre and is home to a £5.5m Media Arts Centre and £7.8m state-of-the-art Learning Resources Centre.
For shoppers, ‘The Mall Luton’ is Bedfordshire's premier shopping centre. Situated in the heart of the town you will find a large choice of popular high street names plus a selection of unique independent stores.
