Wellingborough dates back to medieval times and is situated in the heart of rural England and surrounded by unspoilt, Northamptonshire countryside.
Situated approximately 12 miles north east of Northampton and with excellent road and rail links,Wellingborough is ideal for commuters who have the convenience of easy access to the M1, A45, A1 and A14 opening major routes to most parts of the country. Rail links run frequently from Wellingborough to London St Pancras as well as Leicester, Nottingham and Manchester. Luton airport is approx 35 miles away.
The town centre offers a good range of shops and the Swansgate Shopping Centre is Wellingborough's premier shopping location boasting many retailers under one roof.
The Waendel Leisure Centre in Thomas Street offers a range of sporting activities and if you’re more of a spectator, take a trip to the delightfully named ‘Dog & Duck’ ground to see Wellingborough Town FC in action. Wellingborough Town is the 6th oldest football club in the country and was the first football club to play a match under floodlights (against Bedford in 1879)!
For entertainment, Wellingborough has ‘The Castle’ - a theatre, cinema and arts centre incorporating an art gallery and restaurants. If you’re looking for something a bit different there’s a ‘laser maze’!
The Tresham College Of Further and Higher Education has a campus in Wellingborough and in September 2010 was placed at number 2 in the Data Service's league table for General Further Education College Success Rates for 2008/09.
