Worcester

Map

The city of Worcester is the county town of Worcestershire.

Worcester is world famous for its porcelain and of course, Worcestershire Sauce which was first created by the Worcester chemists John Wheeley Lea and William Henry Perrins in the 1830’s.

This historic city is situated on the banks of the River Severn, which runs through the middle of the city and is overlooked by the twelfth-century Worcester Cathedral.

Worcester's compact city centre is mainly pedestrianised, offering a traffic-free ambience for exploring the wide variety of shopping and other attractions on offer. There are over 100 places to eat and drink from restaurants, cafes & ancient pubs to modern coffee shops.

Worcester has a sporting pedigree and is home to both Worcestershire County Cricket Club and Worcester Warriors Rugby Football Club.

The city offers a range of leisure facilities including Worcester Swimming Pool & Fitness Centre (Sansome Walk), St Johns Sports Centre (Malvern Road) and Nunnery Wood Sports Complex (Spetchley Road).

By road, Worcester is located just off junction 6 (for Worcester north, the city's main business parks) and junction 7 (for Worcester south and west, the city centre) of the M5.

By rail, Worcester is served by two stations: Worcester Foregate Street and Worcester Shrub Hill.
