The historic market town of Bury St Edmunds is conveniently placed for both Newmarket and Ipswich via the A14 and for Haverhill and many suffolk villages and the East Anglian coast. The Bury St Edmunds skyline has several dominating features British sugar factory, Green King Brewery and the fantastic Cathedral (despite Bury St Edmunds being a town not a city). West Suffolk College and West Suffolk Hospital both serve the town. There are many other noteworthy public buildings in Bury St Edmunds town centre the Guildhall, Corn Exchange, Market Cross (art Gallery), Moyes Hall (Museum) and Atheneum to name but a few.

The Angel Hotel and the much more modern town hall stand either side of Abbeygate street on the historic Angel Hill which leads down to the Abbey Gate (with portcullis) into the Abbey Gardens where many events are held throughout the year. The National Trust's Ickworth park closeby is also worthy of mention (and a visit!)
