Leicester is home to the National Space Centre which opened in 2001 and is still adding to its impressive exhibits in the flagship 'rocket' shaped building today. Festivals include the massive Caribbean Carnival ending at Victoria Park and the stunning Diwali Festival of Light which takes over the entire city.
There are canal walks along the Grand Union or through the Shires or Fosse Park shopping centres. Shout yourself hoarse supporting Leicester Tigers (Rugby) or Leicester City Football Club at the Walkers Stadium. The University of Leicester and De Montfort University are the two universities educating students who make up 12% of the population of the city during term-time. With a total population of 280,000, Leicester is the largest city in the East Midlands and the tenth largest in the country.
